The return of a Duwamish River crossing after a four-year absence is huge news for anyone who lives and works around South Park. It's also huge news for anyone who likes beer, since the neighborhood's cluster of three great new breweries will suddenly be much easier to access.

The new bridge opens for traffic June 30, four years to the day since the old one was taken out of service. This week I heard from Lisa Rough at Tin Dog Brewing about the neighborhood's plans to celebrate on June 29. General merriment happens from 12-9pm and involves live music, a dedication ceremony at 3pm and luchadores at 6. But starting June 30, the rest of the city has much easier access to the following fine establishments. Make a day of it...

Burdick Brewery
The crowd here is friendly. Really friendly. But in a way that charms, rather than creeps you out. The five taps usually dispense more than one IPA, plus hop-forward reds, ambers, and pales. And something's always on nitro. Burdick shares a building, a wall, and a fanfreakingtastic patio with Lowercase Brewing, but the massive projection screen in the tap room is seeing plenty of use during the World Cup.

Yes. The beers here are good. Owner Chris Smith—a Starbucks employee by day—layers lots of thoughtful details into his standards (IPA, ESB, a brown ale, and a pale ale) and does great seasonals like the recent Mexican lager. But I would be remiss if I did not mention the spectacular patio out front. The owner of the building sells garden sculptures, and the invitingly green space out front is the recipient of many of these items. Rain was pelting down when I visited last, and  

Tin Dog Brewing
Most styles here are Belgian in nature—wits, dubbels, saisons, with a healthy injection of hopped options. A Randall is pressed into frequent service for the "beerguaritas," made with limes, mint, agave syrup, and Tin Dog's white IPA. The spare tap room just added some outdoor picnic-style seating. Dogs are welcome, and you can bring in outside food, though the brewery does serve Pampeana Empanadas.
