Though Seattle is plush with fantastic runway events that put you in front of local, independent, national, and international fashion (stay tuned for more on what I'm calling Runway Month—and yes, that's happening in your city), there's only one show that replicates the experience of big name editors, rock stars, and Le Moss off-duty, and that's Nordstrom Designer Preview.
This year's event is set for Thursday, July 24 at the Smith Cove Event Center at Pier 91 in Magnolia.
As in the past, Nordstrom will bring full and partial collections from top designers—Prada, Stella McCartney, Dries Van Noten are likely, among others—and dress beautiful women, and a few men, for a great parade.
UPDATE: No Prada in the mix this time around. Instead, expect: Michael Kors, Christian Dior, Nina Ricci, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Valentino, Marc Jacobs, Lanvin, and the other three I mentioned above.
And as in the past, the proceeds from the admittedly rather steep ticket prices will go to Seattle Art Museum; this year they will fund a cool pop-centric show called Pop Departures, debuting this October. I'm told the runway event will refer to Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, and other exhibit artists in fresh, inventive ways.
But this marks the first year that Seattle is the only city to receive the distinct pleasure of this show. Nordstrom used to produce smaller versions of NDP in other markets, but for 2014, we're it. Feel special?
The event is set to include food trucks, a visiting Vogue editor talking trends, and preeminent fashion show DJ Javier Peral.
At the time of this writing, tickets are 90 percent sold out so it's perhaps true that your best bet on following the action is right here. Or rather, on my Instagram and Facebook feeds. I'm teaming up with Nordstrom to go behind the scenes, backstage, and above and beyond, so get ready to play along. And stay tuned to do so.
More information, including—maybe—on those last tickets, is available on SAM's NDP page.
