OPENINGS

Mamnoon
One of the most exciting openings of the season is also the quietest. But as of Tuesday, chef Garrett Melkonian is regaling Capitol Hill with Persian, Lebanese, and Syrian fare. His preparation for the new role included a stint cooking with the owners' moms.

Paris Eastside
On December 4, a new Parisian-themed specialty shop wades into the retail fray on Capitol Hill. In addition to selling Franco-produced candies, wines, mustards and such, the space will also hold cooking workshops. Owner Muriel-Marguerite Foucher is also the author of, um,  Easy French Microwave Recipes: Impress Your Friends with 30 Easy French Recipes.

CLOSINGS

Costas Opa
Fremocentrist says that owner Costa Antonopoulos is ending more than three decades of business on Fremont Avenue. His Greek restaurant closed quickly and quietly this month.

Z’Tejas Southwestern Grill
The local outpost of this national chain (one of only 11 in the country, and the only one in the Northwest) reports it will close on January 26, after more than a decade in Bellevue Square.

COMING SOON

Sam's Tavern
The former Chino's location will soon be reborn as a den of straightforward burgers, Rainier, and rollicking good times. The name is a shout-out to the original Red Robin (there's a family connection) as is the plan for bottomless fries.

Speckled and Drake
Capitol Hill Seattle blog has more details on what, exactly, is going into the former Living Room location on Olive Way. Roosevelt High alum Justin "JD" Martinsen has run Williamsburg bar duckduck since 2006, now he's bringing his fowl-forward model back to his hometown. Speckled and Drake, he says, is a neighborhood watering hole that lets its "freak feathers fly" on weekends. Look for a meaty pub menu and a soft open as soon as this weekend.

Marx Foods
Seattle Weekly’s Hanna Raskin says the grocer who supplies “rambutans to Alinea and ground kangaroo to adventurous burger fans” is opening its first-ever retail location on the edge of lower Queen Anne.
