Bezos Center opens at MOHAI
With a $10 million dollar gift from Amazon.com giant Jeff Bezos back in 2011, the Museum of History and Industry has created the "Bezos Center for Innovation," an exhibit that explores our region's history of innovations.
The exhibit launches this Saturday, and will showcase a series of performances and demonstrations, such as an all-day 3D printing demo and a presentation from Seattle Times and GeekWire columnist Monica Guzman.
Bezos Center for Innovation launch, Sat, October 12, 10am–5pm, Museum of History and Industry.
The Seattle Neighborhoods Coalition, which organized a series of mayoral speed-dating events before the primary elections, will host a full-fledged mayoral debate this Saturday between McGinn and Murray.
Get there early if you want breakfast.
Seattle Neighborhood Coalition Mayoral Debate, Sat, October 12, 9:30am, The Central, 500 30th Ave S, Seattle, free ($12 collected at the door for breakfast-goers).
Beans and Bingo
Beacon Hill is addressing sustainability by encouraging its residents to grow at least one vegetable for their own consumption this year, putting emphasis on one in particular: the bean.
To conclude their "Beacon, A Hill of Beans!" program promoting the crop, they will hold a free bean dinner with bean bingo for some sustainable family fun.
Does Washington state have a fair minimum wage? Many don't think so, as we saw when groups of disgruntled workers in Seattle rallied to "Strike Poverty" in late August.
See what both sides of the debate have to say when local labor activists, elected officials and economic experts talk it out on live television. Brian Callanan, Seattle Channel host, will lead the debate.
