When legendary choreographer Twyla Tharp finally caved to Pacific Northwest Ballet Artist Director Peter Boal's frequent requests to come work with the company, it was a given that her elite talents would be showcased on the grandest of stages. PNB opens its 2013–14 season with Air Twyla (Sept 27–Oct 6), a fresh collection of three Tharp's works. The program features the world premiere of Waiting at the Station, a collaboration with noted New Orleans R&B composer Allen Toussaint, the PNB premiere of the Scottish-leaning Brief Fling, and the Ol' Blue Eyes inspired Nine Sinatra Songs.
Dance lovers can get an early peek at Air Twyla with a lecture-performance Twyla Tharp on Stage on September 25 at 6:30. The event will feature the choreographer explaining her process and excerpts from the dances. Tickets for the lecture-performance at McCaw Hall are $25, and the proceedings (sans Waiting at the Station's run-thru) will also be streamed for free at pnb.org/live.
