Okay, guys—I have an embarrassing confession. This weekend I had a few glasses of wine and sorta drunk texted Li’l Woody’s owner Marcus Lalario. But seriously, who wouldn’t be excited by this cryptic image that showed up on the burger shack’s social media feeds Friday night? For the record, my husband doesn’t mind me drunk texting other men if burgers are involved.
And today all was revealed. Lalario is teaming up with Molly Moon’s to open a joint space in Ballard, at the former Zak’s Burger location at 2040 NW Market, right by the Majestic Bay Theatre. This space will be about three times larger than the original Li’l Woody’s, but deal in the same addictive squishy-bunned burgers and hand-cut fries of the perfect thickness and crispitude.
Lalario is an investor in Molly Moon's and Li’l Woody’s already makes its milkshakes with her ice cream. While the new location will definitely look and feel like the original Li'l Woody's, he says it will include a full-on ice cream counter setup with all the pints, sundaes, and flavors you might find at a freestanding Molly Moon's. How is it possible that the ice cream maven doesn't already have a location in Ballard?
Lalario says buildout is cruising and the space will open before summer. The Li’l Woody’s on Pine Street has become a reliable late-night destination on the Hill, and the new outpost will most definitely serve the Ballard version of that clientele, plus do major family-friendly traffic during the daytime. He plans to stay open until 11 to start, then hopefully add some late-night hours down the road.
