Our new Crushing On series highlights Seattle shops and off-the-beaten-path boutiques and asks owners what chic coiffures, budding blogs, and local eateries are making them tick right now.
When a vacancy sign showed up in a small storefront window below Pike Place Market, craftswoman Jennifer Cullin jumped on the opportunity to open her own sales space and workshop after running her illustration and paper goods business from home for several years. One quick renovation later, and The Paper Feather opened its doors for Seattle's stationery obsessed.
The petite boutique features items inspired by Cullin's love of birds, music, and travel. Stop by the cheerful space to see her working away on the whimsical creations—she handcrafts everything in the shop.
And when she's not putting pen to paper? Keep reading to find out this crafty lady's favorite local treats and treasures.
Favorite Style Blog?
Right now my favorite style blog is Style and Cheek. It's written by my sweet friend Julia who lives in the Seattle area and features her favorite fashions, products, and makeup tutorials.
Best Instagram feed?
I love the Watson Kennedy stores in Seattle and am always interested in keeping up with the owner's feed. He posts beautiful pictures of in-store items and displays alongside inspiration from his daily life.
Who does your hair?
I have really thick and wavy hair, so it’s hard to pin down a stylist who knows how to deal with it! I'm really fortunate to have found Hair Fashions in Redmond. It's owned and operated by my friend Cassie who started her business independently while taking care of her three children. She is one of the hardest working people I know, and so much fun to chat with during appointments.
What item of clothing or accessory has been in heavy rotation this month?
I'm kind of obsessed with anything nautical right now. I just purchased an anchor tank top and a seahorse romper, and I have a lot of nautical-themed art and cards in my shop. I also love those satin elastic hair ties boutiques are carrying.
What item of clothing or accessory would you buy right now if you could?
A Kate Spade leather cross-body bag. They are so practical and classic.
Best restaurant for getting dressed up and wearing a great outfit?
My husband and I like going to Maximilien in the market for dinner and El Gaucho and Barolo for swanky happy hours. The lighting, music, and dim glow of candlelight make these places romantic and fun for date nights.
Where'd you go the last time you got out of town?
We celebrated my husband's birthday at the beautiful Lake Louise, Canada, complete with ice skating, great food, and a horse-drawn sleigh ride. It was blissful!
Soundtrack for a Sunday afternoon?
Something classic like Louis Armstrong and Billie Holiday—perfect for a relaxing, lazy Sunday.
Seattleite you'd most like to meet?
I love The Office, so I'd really like to meet the hilarious Rainn Wilson.
