In Seattle's apparel community, the footwear-focus is typically geared towards athletics rather than aesthetics. But Re-soul, the Ballard boutique specializing in modern, quality footwear and accessories to go with, just designed and launched an in-house shoe line that attempts to meet Seattle practicality with bold colors and Italian construction.

The new collection, created by store owner and former Nordstrom designer Maggie Burns, features oxfords, flats, and pumps that can complement lots of lifestyles.

In particular, Burns designed the collection with the Re-soul customer in mind. “I always felt like every time I’d go [on buying trips for the store], there was always an item that was missing, that just wasn’t there,” she says. “I was inspired by customers that would come in and tell me, ‘I wish you had that perfect flat’ or ‘that great oxford.’ ”

To ensure quality and maintain fit standards, Burns used her Nordstrom product development background to get Italian shoemakers to do the fabrication. “I wanted to keep up with the integrity of the product that we carry in the shop so I decided to go with Italy because they’re the best at shoe-making, but I also wanted them to be reasonably priced.”

The collection retails from about $150 to $200 and can be found both in-store and on the Re-soul website.

What's next? Burns says her customers have given the spring looks a friendly welcome, so, naturally, fall will follow.
