This morning the owners of Copper Gate in Ballard sent word that the divey Scandinavian-themed, bare bosom photo–displaying bar will close after June 30.
Over the past seven years, this space—with its ready supply of aquavit, bar in the shape of a Viking ship, and adjacent music space inspired by an, um, ship canal—became a neighborhood fixture. We also sang its praises in our April feature on bars with ambitious food offerings.
The official word: "The new owners are locally-based and will have a new concept and a different name for the venue." The outgoing owners are also behind Thaiku, now garnering raves in its new Phinney location, and the growing La Carta de Oaxaca and Mezcaleria Oaxaca mini empire.
More details as we have them. Check out Facebook for details on end-of-days gatherings.
