In a most fortuitous turn, a bevy of noteworthy food events fall on the first of April. Some highlights below—fans of pop-ups and food trucks especially will want to read on.
The Return of Maximus Minimus
The wait is over, people. After months off the road, the food truck that's shaped like a pig opens for the season at 2121 Westlake Avenue. With it comes some of this city's tastiest pulled pork.
Kraken Congee Popup
A trio of local chefs take over Grub on Queen Anne to showcase four variations of the warming rice porridge, congee. Options include a crackling-laden five-spice duck confit; tamarind with roasted pork belly; caramelized carrot and lentils; and pork-stuffed squid. But first start with Asian finger foods like Chinese doughnuts, bean sprout fritters, or a beef tongue steamed bun. Full drink menu, too. Walk-ins only between 5 and 9pm.
Diversión at Lloydmartin
Down the street, Sam Crannell of LloydMartin is spicing things up with a tapas-themed menu. The plates fall in the $10 to $12 range and run the gamut of classic and modern: fried anchovies with candy floss, pork cheek with gigante beans, spiced quail, paella, lamb meatballs, choux puffs with foie gras, and more.
The Launch of the Georgetown Food Truck Pod
The city's newest cluster of trucks will operate weekdays from 11 to 2 at 6100 Fourth Avenue South. On opening day you can expect Monte Cristo, Santi's Kitchen, and Kaosamai.
