Nosh Pit Weekly Planner: August 6–12
This week: one indulgence after another, with four booze-centric events, all-out s'mores mania, and free ice cream on top.
WEDNESDAY, August 6
Artisan Mezcal at Traveler Montlake
This precursor to Tequila Fest will focus on tequila’s younger, cooler sibling: mezcal. A lesson on the mezcal-producing states of Mexico will be interspersed with a tasting of four mezcals, paired with light food from the Traveler Montlake menu. $45 tickets are available online, and spots are limited.
Ben and Jerry’s Free Scoops
Ben and Jerry’s scoop truck will be touring Seattle from now through August 27, giving away free scoops of salted caramel and hazelnut chocolate ice cream. Follow the @BenJerrysWest handle to track the truck’s location.
THURSDAY, August 7
The Matador and Kickin’ Boot Wildfire Benefit
From 11am–close, the Matador Restaurant and Tequila Bar and Kickin’ Boot Whiskey Kitchen will both donate 100% of all profits to Band of Brothers, a Kirkland-based nonprofit providing aid to families affected by the Carlton Complex Fire. The Matador’s Ballard, West Seattle, Tacoma, and Redmond locations will all be participating in the benefit.
FRIDAY, August 8
National S'mores Day at Hot Cakes
Who better to recognize this annual celebration of all things gooey and chocolatey than a molten cakery? Hot Cakes is doing so in spades: from Friday through Sunday, they'll offer s'more-flavored cookies, milkshakes, and molten cakes, as well as some classic s'mores with cold-smoked chocolate. There will also be s'mores kits available for purchase. Sunday will feature roasted-to-order s'mores from a sidewalk grill from 11am–8pm.
Seattle Street Food Festival at Cal Anderson Park
A slew of more than 50 food trucks and carts will be wheeling their way to Cal Anderson for a pretty gourmet-looking soiree. The companion pop-up picnic includes chefs like Roux's Matthew Lewis, Revel and Joule's Rachel Yang, and the Old Sage's Dana Tough and Brian McCracken. Tickets are available at several price points online.
South Lake Union Block Party
This year's SLU Block Party will feature a variety of food trucks from 4–10pm, as well as $1 tastes from local favorites Lunchbox Laboratory, La Toscanella, and Shanik. But it's all just lead-up to the main event: a burger grilling competition from 4–7pm. Seastar, Brave Horse Tavern, Lunchbox Laboratory, Portage Bay Café, and Whole Foods Market will go head to head (to head to head to head) for the chance to win the Best Burger in SLU award. $15 tickets are available online.
SATURDAY, August 9
Summer Cider Day in Port Townsend
The Northwest Cider Association's largest event of the year will be at Port Townsend's Northwest Maritime Center, offering more than 60 varieties of hard cider from 18 regional cidermakers. The $25 ticket price includes 10 tasting tickets and a tasting glass. Additional tasting tickets will be available for purchase at the event. Tickets are available online.
Tequila Fest at Phinney Neighborhood Center
The third annual Tequila Fest will feature 140 tequilas and mezcals from a wide variety of producers, including El Tesoro, Cazadores, and Wahaka Mezcal. Ticket packages are still available at two levels: the $45 Blanco, which includes 8 tasting tokens, and the $65 Reposado, which includes 10 tokens and early entry at 2pm. Judges will also crown a winner from the five cocktail competition finalists. Tickets are available online, and a portion of each purchase will benefit the Seattle Benevolent Guild.
SUNDAY, August 10
Sunday Supper at Volunteer Park Café
This month's Sunday Supper will feature tomatoes in every course, from a blackened tomato bisque with avocado and green coriander, roasted chicken with heirloom tomato panzanella salad, and even a tomato-apricot tart with basil ice cream. The $40 dinner begins at 6pm, and reservations can be made by calling 206-328-3155.
