PubliCalendar: Forum for a Wiser Future
Today's picks for civic nerds
July Friday Forum
July's edition of Transportation Choices Coalition's Friday Forum will focus on Seattle's 2035 Comprehensive Master Plan. The question on the table: How should we plan for growth. Get takes from nerds who obsess over this stuff like Futurewise executive director Hilary Franz, King County Equity and Social Justice manager Matias Valenzuela, and a surprise representative from the Seattle Department of Planning and Development.
Join the discussion this Friday to find out what alternatives are in play—an urban village approach, a transit approach, or a city center focus—and possibly help sculpt Seattle's future.
July Friday Forum, Fri, July 11, noon—1pm, Chinook Building rm 121, 401 5th Avenue, free.
Unspoken Angel Golf Invitational
Tessera, a local organization dedicated to creating opportunities for autistic adults, recently partnered with Seattle Children's hospital to turn their former headquarters into the Seattle Children’s Alyssa Burnett Adult Life Center. The center offers those suffering from Autistic Spectrum Disorders classes on life skills, health, and wellness, and social and recreational events.
The two-day Unspoken Angel Golf tournament has raised over $5 million for Tessera over the last 8 years, and hopes to continue to generate resources for the Adult Life Center.
Unspoken Angel Golf Invitational, Sat and Sun, July 12 and 13, The Golf Club at Newcastle, 15500 Six Penny Lane, Newcastle, $400 per person for both events; $1,500 per foursome; $175 auction only.
Yoga in the Park
Yoga Behind Bars, the organization that provides yoga lessons to inmates in Puget Sound prisons, jails, and detention centers, will kick off its weekly summer yoga sessions at Green Lake Sunday, July 13. Classes are free, but the suggested donation of $20 is a big help to YBB's efforts to help rehabilitate people who will soon rejoin society.
Yoga instructors will be at Green Lake every Sunday through August.
Yoga in the Park, Sun, July 13, 10am, Green Lake Park, 7201 East Green Lake Dr N, free (donations accepted).
