WEDNESDAY, June 25
Deep Dish Competition at Benito’s
This Chicago eatery in Ballard will commemorate its second anniversary with a Mariners vs. White Sox deep-dish face-off. A chicken and spinach “Mariners” pie and a sausage and pepperoni “White Sox” pie will both be available from Wednesday through Sunday, and whichever team’s pie sells more will have its flag hung in the window during the Mariners vs. White Sox series from July 4–6. Got that? The restaurant will also have discounted microbrews and wine throughout the competition.
THURSDAY, June 26
Summer Dining Series at Copperleaf Restaurant
Cedarbrook Lodge’s restaurant will kick off its summer dining series this Thursday, with executive chef Mark Bodinet teaming up with Hightower Cellars for a five-course tasting menu with wine pairings. The $95 meal will start at 6:30 with Foraged and Found porcini with salami culatello. Call 206-214-4112 for reservations.
Shuck Off at Sazerac
This first annual oyster shucking competition will feature a lineup of Seattlebrity shuckers, including Evening Magazine’s Michael King. There will also be bites, booze, and prizes. A portion of the proceeds from each $30 ticket (available online) will benefit Puget Soundkeeper Alliance.
SATURDAY, June 28
The Taste Casting Call
ABC cooking competition The Taste will be recruiting Seattle chefs and home cooks at the Swedish Cultural Center in Ballard from 10–3. Celeb chefs Anthony Bourdain, Nigella Lawson, Marcus Samuelsson, and Ludo Lefebvre will judge the third season. Cheesy, yes, but there will be a $100,000 prize. They’re now accepting applications online.
Midsummer Night’s Dream Cabaret at El Gaucho
This Belltown steakhouse will serve up a four-course dinner to accompany a burlesque-style cabaret performance of Shakespeare’s summery play. A cocktail hour will start at 7pm, and the full menu is available online. Reservations for the $150 event can be made by calling 206-728-1337.
SUNDAY, June 29
Creole Seafood Boil at Roux
Matthew Lewis will host a N’awlins style shellfish boil at his brick-and-mortar restaurant in Fremont starting at 6pm. In true Northwest style, the kitchen will be adding some Dungeness Crab to the gulf shrimp and Andouille sausage. There will also be beer specials and cocktails. Tickets for the $50 event are available online.
Garden Party at Serafina
This Eastlake osteria will celebrate its 23rd anniversary with its fourth annual garden party. The Iron Bartender competition will start an hour after the 1pm kickoff, with the city’s best bartenders creating cocktail pairings for a five-course tasting menu. From then on, all the trappings of a summer extravaganza will be in place: roasted pig, patio grilling, rosé, live music, photo booth, oyster bar. Iron Bartender tickets are $95, and the garden party will be free with food and drink tickets for $5 a piece.
TUESDAY, July 1
Canada Day Celebration at Smith
The U.S.A. isn’t the only country getting some love in Seattle this week—Linda Derschang’s Capitol Hill tavern will offer $6 Winnipeg cocktails with cinnamon whiskey, Amaro Averna and black pepper tincture, alongside poutine with maple brisket. This fine establishment will also have a Canadian Tuxedo contest, so start dusting off your denim jumpsuit.
Parchment Bakery Pop-up
Ballard sandwich shop Porkchop and Co. will host the very talented pastry chef Laura Pyles’s Parchment Bakery pop-up, this time for brinner. Pyles will feature cheddar Belgian waffles with maple bacon butter and fried chicken, alongside Thai basil blood orange mimosas.
