The guys behind the Kraken Congee pop-up will be vying for $250,000 starter money in a new CNBC show called Restaurant Kickstart. The trio behind Kraken—Garrett Doherty, Irbille Donia, and Shane Tyler Robinson—puts on a popular congee menu at Grub in Queen Anne an a kinda-monthly basis.
This experience likely comes in handy on the show, in which teams receive $7,500 to stage a pop-up restaurant or shop in hopes of convincing the judges (mega restaurateur Joe Bastianich and Texas chef Tim Love) to invest their own money.
As Eater puts it, the show "essentially fuses Top Chef's restaurant wars with Shark Tank." It airs in July on CNBC.
Apparently this show does not require Top Chef-style insane non-disclosures; Doherty confirmed that yep, they will indeed be on the show. Semi spoiler: Someone cries. I won't say who.
