Macklemore Makes Up to $300K Per Show
But that's not nearly as much as some other really, really bad bands.
Jordan Weissmann at Slate is all up in arms about this leaked list of what bands charge to play shows on college campuses, and his main gripe seems to be that Macklemore commands twice what Kendrick Lamar charges. (You can read the list for yourself, but Mr. Thrift Shop gets about $200,000 to $300,000, while King Kendrick pulls down just $150K.)
Okay, Jordan, if we’re talking about “real” hip-hop, sure, Lamar and his Compton bona fides deserve every bit as much coin as Mack. But aren’t we burying the lede? Seriously, look at all of the other hacks who make as much—if not way more—than either of these guys:
$200,000 to $300,000
Well, he did handle that whole “sent to Alaska by internet pranksters” thing pretty well.
Stone Temple Pilots
$200,000 to $400,000
Wait, Weiland is still alive?
$250,000 to $400,000
Man, the going rate for a jailhouse concert has really gone up.
$300,000 to $500,000
Every attendee gets a free lint roller.
$350,000 to $500,000
Obviously a typo. This is what we would pay them to not play.
So come on, Jordan, let’s take it easy on Mack. He’s already had a rough week.
