Morning Fizz: Oblivious Tweets
Caffeinated News & Gossip featuring the clueless mainstream media on twitter.
1. Mayor Ed Murray will announce his pick for the new Seattle police chief today at 10AM.
Former Boston Police Commissioner Kathleen O'Toole is one of the candidates.
2. Macklemore performed at EMP on Friday night in a costume—long nose, long beard—that cued up basic anti-Semitic stereotypes.
Almost worse, the oblivious Seattle Times tweeted pictures of Macklemore as Shylock/Fagin without comment: "Macklemore showed up in disguise at EMP's opening-night party for Spectacle exhibit."
And rightfully so. A little historical context.
3. Speaking of oblivious tweets from the mainstream media, here's what KING 5 had to say about "Bike to Work Day" on Friday:
"Bicycles are hitting Seattle streets in force this morning for Bike to Work Day. Check out KING 5 Morning News for tips on avoiding the added congestion."
4. In case you missed it on Friday afternoon, we had the news that the GOP did eventually find a candidate to run for state Sen. Rodney Tom's seat. (Tom, the leader of the Republican-dominated Majority Coalition Caucus, announced after this year's legislative session that he wasn't running for reelection.)
We have a brief interview with the newcomer candidate, Michelle Darnell, here.
Brainy state Rep. Cyrus Habib (D-48, Kirkland) is also running for the seat.
