Shifts & Shakeups
This Week In Restaurant News: Look, New Projects That Aren't in Pioneer Square!
Pork chops in Ballard, ramen in Bellevue, and a historic sandwich shop in Redmond. Okay, fine—some cool Pioneer Square news, too.
Urban Sushi Kitchen
The Westlake corner of downtown just got another lunch spot. A husband and wife team serve up rice bowls, udon soup, and sushi, plus breakfast sandwiches.
The excellent local sandwich chain is restoring a historic 1911 building in Redmond to its original look. By this summer the shapce should be home to Homegrown's sixth location, and first on the Eastside, by this summer, according to KING5.
Cherry Street Coffee: Capitol Hill
Getting in on the continued Pike/Pine boom, Cherry Street should be serving up espresso, soups, and sandwiches in a new building at Pine and Melrose by summer, according to the Capitol Hill Seattle blog.
Damn the Weather
Bryn Lumsden, who tended bar at Rob Roy, Vessel, and Vito’s, shared his plans to open his own bar in Pioneer Square. The name is a nod to an obscure brunch cocktail, and an exhortation for neighbors to come in and drink, even if it's raining. Per Facebook, Walrus and the Carpenter chef Eli Dahlin is coming over to mastermind the food.
Kurt Farm Shop
Kurt Timmermeister is a farmer, a cheesemaker, an author, and soon… a shop owner. His diminutive Kurt Farm Shop will feature his cheeses, plus his new foray into the world of ice cream, flavored with herbs or berries from his Vashon Island farm. The shop will be part of the Chophouse Row development near 11th and Pike, already being heaped with comparisons to Melrose Market.
Porkchop and Co.
This new restaurant is slated to move into the former Belle Clementine space in Ballard, according to Eater Seattle. Owner Paul Osher is working on a hearty seasonal menu, and hopes to open in early April.
Changes in the Skillet Universe
Nick Novello has been promoted to chef de cuisine for both Skillet Diner locations, while Michael "Mookie" Carter is back at Skillet Counter as chef de cuisine after helping open Altstadt in Pioneer Square. Finally, Cara Masino is moving from GM at Skillet Counter to GM at Skillet Diner Ballard.
We are happy to share bar and restaurant promotoins and staff announcements. Just send them our way.
