For the past few years we've been following the progress of local designers Karly Orr and Liise Wyatt (collectively known as Wyatt Orr) from their Project Red Dress win to a dreamy spring 2013 collection. And we've watched them with good reason: the duo's locally produced line of buttery leather jackets and silky, edgy shifts has been steadily making its way into the hearts, and closets, of local boutiques and Northwestern style lovers alike.
Wyatt Orr's newest collection hits Les Amis this September. Take in the stunning looks below with comments from the designers on the line's inspiration and impressive trajectory. To get even closer, see Wyatt Orr originals as they compete in the Independent Designer Runway Showcase on September 25.
Shop Talk: How does this collection feel different from your past lines? And how is it similar?
Karly Orr and Liise Wyatt: Our fall collection features waxy wools, soft leather and flowing silks. Natural fibers are a constant for us, as are the generously cut shapes which make our pieces look and feel great. Some of our silhouettes are similar this season to last, but you'll see a new wool harem-type pant and a wool/cashmere jacket with leather sleeves and undercollar in both black and nude colorways.
What inspired you for fall 2013?
We always find inspiration from the natural environment here in the Pacific Northwest. For fall we took cues from the dark northwest woods, bark, the rain, the ocean, and rocks.
Do you have a favorite piece from this collection?
A favorite is the Charlie dress (see above), made from navy waxy wool and soft black leather. It's cozy for cooler weather and it accentuates the waist in the front while the back is loose and flows when you walk.
How have you grown as a brand over the past year?
It has been really great to see Wyatt Orr get so much traction over the last year, and we hope to see that continue. We're always learning and looking for new ways to grow the brand and line. This year we were fortunate to begin doing business with Les Amis in Fremont. We launched our new website, and now have the help of our amazing summer intern who picks up the pieces when we have too much on our plates (which is quite often!).
What are your goals going forward?
We want to continue to develop brand awareness both locally and beyond Seattle by doing business with more boutiques. We also hope to have our online store available by the end of the year so our pieces are more easily accessible to everyone.
