We just got word that after a successful weekend of soft openings, Percy's and Co. is opening tonight in the former Old Town Alehouse space at 5233 Ballard Ave NW. Dave Lamping is in the kitchen, serving a menu of superseasonal plates like confit chicken leg with wilted pea vines and a sweet corn puree and a spinach salad with sugar snap peas and feta marinated in mint. Behind the bar, partners Joe Peterson and Kyle Taylor are making drinks that lean heavily on fresh herbs—be it dill-infused vodka or a bourbon flavored with star anise, allspice, and mint—plus purees of fresh cherries, watermelons, and avocados.

Peterson and Taylor are cousins who returned home to the Northwest from New York. Most recently, they both worked at Manhattan's Apotheke, and want to spread the idea of apothecary-style cocktails in their hometown. The Percy's cocktail menu will give you an idea of what this means, but in short it's drinks filled with the herbal and fruit notes above, plus an optional tincture, made in partnership with Dandelion Botanicals down the street. You can add a tincture to boost your brainpower, your skin, your lady balance, or your libido (heyo).

While Peterson and Taylor will be the prominent faces behind the bar, Percy's other partners are Jeff Ofelt and Wade Weigel of Bimbo's Cantina and the Cha Cha Lounge. Ofelt wants to be clear that despite the infusions, the purees, and the fact that the space is pretty damn quaint, Percy's is neither fancy nor snobby. The bar will be open daily from 4 to 2am, with Sunday brunch firing up in a few weeks.
