La Carta de Oaxaca
For the last 10 years, the Ballard Ave stalwart has been closed Sundays. But not this Cinco de Mayo. The restsaurant is taking a cue from its sibling Mezcaleria Oaxaca and focusing on mezcal cocktails, paired with Oaxacan fare you won’t find on the regular menu. Reservations are first-come, first-served.
Taco Libre at The Mobile Food Rodeo
The annual food truck gathering is putting on a taco truck taco-off in honor of Cinco de Mayo (and the beloved cult film Nacho Libre). In conjunction with the Mobile Food Rodeo, a gathering of Seattle’s 35 best food trucks, six mobile taco masters will compete for best bite as determined by the people. Entry is free, but $25 gets you line-cutting rights and swag.
Cuatro de Burro
Saddle up your donkey for the first annual Cuatro de Burro Capitol Hill tequila crawl from 5-9. The outing is led by host Sparkle Donkey Tequila, and stops by Moe Bar, Linda’s, R Place, and Von Trapp’s while singing along with the live mariachi band. The first 200 get sombreros good for drink specials all night. And yes, there will be real donkeys.
Cupcake Royale will be featuring its margarita cupcake all month long in celebration. Lemon cake is topped with lime buttercream spiked with tequila. No word on a salted rim; find it at all Cupcake Royale’s locations.
This den of tequila and mezcal opens at 10 am and plans to party for as long as necessary. Brunch begins at opening, and at 2pm specialties such as abondigas, tamales, and even fried chicken make the menu.
Happy hour begins early at the Tex-Mex cantina in Queen Anne with all-day drink and food specials and door prizes from El Jimador, Tecate, and Cuervo.
Fiesta 5k Ole!
The Fiesta 5k Ole! returns to Volunteer Park this year with the likes of Skillet and Taqueria La Fandita serving up celebratory tacos curbside. Thirsty after that slog? Hit up the beer and margarita garden while listening to local bands My Goodness and The Young Evils. Admission is free if you run, otherwise it’s $5.
Do your Cinco pregaming at Linda's Tavern on Quatro de Mayo. Mexican-themed food and drinks specials will be making the rounds in celebration of the tavern's newly open patio.
