Restaurant Shifts and Shakeups: Week of Mar 4
Chuck's Hop Shop expands to the Central District, Tutta Bella plots a Bellevue expansion, and a meat shop takes over a vegan shop.
Golden Wheat Bakery
A new bakery for the Central District is serving the requisite assortment of goods: breads, cookies, tarts, pies, and pastries, says Central District News. The shop opens daily at 7am and is located at 2908 East Cherry Street.
Harbour Pointe Coffeehouse
Madison Park Blogger points us to a new coffee shop on East Madison Street. The community-focused cafe serves housemade pizza, eight varieties of grilled cheese, soups, salads, and breakfast and gluten-free options. There are plans for poetry, board game, trivia, and movie nights, as well as open mic and babysitting services.
Westin Hotel's beefy bistro is officially offering happy hour, 21 beers on tap, and 12 customizable six-ounce burgers. Relish is open daily from 6:30am to 11pm with happy hour happening from 3 to 6.
Po Dog’s Laura Olson has teamed up with Amy Graeff of Grim’s and Auto Battery’s Christopher Williams for a nautical-themed bar slated to open by the end of March, Eater Seattle reports. Anchors Down assumes the Ballard property that was to house Olson's ill-fated Queen of Norway project.
Maison Tavern, Aston Manor
The clandestine bar and nightclub is taking shape at 2946 First Avenue South with a food menu helmed by Bryan Ogden. Maison Tavern is a 55-seat cocktail and snack spot that at night will become the VIP rooms for Aston Manor, a Prohibition-themed nightclub inspired by a wealthy gentleman's 1920s-era digs.
Former vegan footwear store the Chocolate Shoe Box is making way for a smoked meat shop (the irony!) on Greenwood Avenue, reports Phinneywood.com. On the menu: sandwiches for dine-in or takeout, dinner specials on the weekends, two tap beers, and some vegetarian options. Chris Navarra, owner of Prost! and the Ridge Pizza, is behind the venture along with Chris Gerke and Chris Martino, co-owners of Nickerson Street Saloon.
The Sammich Truck
Colby Rosauer and Jason Graham hope to open their food truck serving the "sandwiches everyone loves" on April 1. Look for them at various pods throughout central Seattle.
Tutta Bella will open its fifth pizzeria this fall at Crossroads Bellevue. In the meantime, the Wallingford location is undergoing a revamp of sorts with the installation of a glassed-in lounge debuting on March 11.
Chuck's Hop Shop
Chuck Shin is expanding his Greenwood craft beer mecca to 20th and Union, hopefully by May, according to Central District News. Last week Shin signed a 10-year lease to occupy the former home of Copymaster. Shin calls Hop Shop “the best bar that isn’t really a bar” and says the space will be kid- and dog-friendly with tastings, trivia nights, and other weekly activities.
Harry’s Chicken Joint
While it waits to move into the former Meander’s space, Harry’s is debuting its fried chicken via delivery-only orders out of Beveridge Place Pub Thursday through Saturday, says West Seattle Blog. Check Harry's Facebook page for an eventual opening announcement.
First-time restaurateurs Johanna Robinson and chef Jang Cho are taking over the former Thomas Street Bistro to create a cozy, Montreal-inspired dining spot, CHS reports. The duo plans to launch with happy hour and dinner service Tuesday through Sunday with a weekend brunch; eventually they'll add lunch service. The opening is slated for late March or early April.
