La Bodega Pops Up at the Unicorn
Manu Alfau is still hunting for a space of his own. But he'll serve up his Dominican fare February 24 on Capitol Hill.
His original Pioneer Square location may have fallen through, but Manu Alfau is still on the hunt for an address where he can open his Dominican sandwich shop, La Bodega. Until then, Alfau has been making cameos in restaurants around town. The latest, announced this morning, is happening February 24 (a Sunday) at Unicorn.
Sadly, Anthony Bourdain probably won’t be there; he was a little skeptical of the bar’s cocktail names in his recent Layover in Seattle. What will be there: street food–style bites like chicharrones and fritters of yucca and plantain, in keeping with the bar's carnival feel. Oh, and some of Alfau's signature sandwiches, stuffed with roasted pork shoulder.
The popup runs from 6:30 to 10 and the menu will be a la carte. If things go well, Alfau would love to make Unicorn a regular thing, maybe even weekly. But most nights, you can find him cooking at Blind Pig Bistro. He still hopes to land in Pioneer Square for his new venture—all the cool kids are opening down there, these days.
