Hey Barnacle's David Little, What Should I Drink Tonight?
A wine perfect with seafood, risotto, and hard cheeses.
Wherein we ask local wine notables to make our weeknight drinking decisions for us.
When David Little made the move from Boulder, Colorado, to Seattle he also moved from serving mostly breakfast to serving later meals and, inevitably, alcohol. “Wine knowledge became more of a necessity,” he says. After bartending and learning about French wines at The Walrus and the Carpenter, Little switched to Italian wines while creating the wine list for Barnacle, the apertivo bar he and Renee Erickson opened next door to Walrus in September. “I basically had to start learning a new language in Italian wines.”
So what do you think, David, what should I drink tonight?
2012 Tami’ Grillo Terre Siciliane. I love the wines of Arianna Occhipinti, and the Grillo in particular is so unlike any wine I’ve ever tried. The wine is 100 percent grillo and is intricate and unexpected. Beautiful wildflower perfume on the nose, with clean, volcanic, flinty minerality in the mouth. This wine is perfect with seafood, risotto, and hard cheeses.
