Where to Eat (and Drink) on New Year's Eve
Ready the champagne and oysters—here's our first installment of where to party (and eat!) on New Year's Eve.
It will be your last chance to sip champagne in 2013, and coincidentally, your first chance to sip champagne in 2014. Don’t drop the ball on finding a place to celebrate the ball drop—here are a few places around town to ring in the New Year.
Party at the second annual Melrose Market New Year's Eve Bash with champagne, dancing, and live DJing. Stop by Bar Ferd’nand before the party for a prix fixe dinner and get a free ticket to the party at Melrose Market. 206-623-5882. 10pm–2am. $10. Tickets
The Space Needle
It’s the big one. A dance party at the Space Needle DJ’d by KEXP’s Michelle Myers. Additionally, party favors and champagne will be provided, along with a front row seat for the fireworks display. 206-905-2100. 9pm–1:30am. $100. Tickets
Pre-funk at Monsoon with a four-course dinner that will send you into the New Year full and doubly happy. Start with oysters or a lobster bisque congee, among other choices; for mains, choose from a plethora of options, including seared scallops or pan-roasted duck breast, and for dessert, dumplings, banana cake, or chocolate marquise. 206-325-2111. $57–$70. Pike Brewing Company
Forget the champagne and celebrate the New Year with barleywine. Pike Brewing will be unveiling their 2013 Old Bawdy Barleywine. Live music and an optional prix fixe menu will round out the evening. 206-622-6044. Dinner is $40, or $45 with beer pairing.
The Corson Building
A two-part evening is in store for partygoers at the Corson Building. A multi-course dinner will be served family style with other diners in the luxurious and mystical setting in Georgetown. After dinner, diners while be transported to Melrose Market to join in the dance party, with a complimentary glass of bubbly. 206-762-3330. $250, wine pairings included. Volunteer Park Café
Celebrate the coming of the New Year with dinner at the laid back Capitol Hill café. It’s like having dinner at your mom’s house, if your mom kept a small farm out back, and had a kitchen reminiscent of a French farm house. The three-course dinner starts with a scallop salad, entrees include duck breast, cod, or beef, and a hazelnut torte rounds out the meal. 206-328-3155. 7pm. $95, $120 with wine pairings. Drink in the New Year with a champagne flight at Francophile favorite Bastille. Four tastings will be offered, comparing vintage champagnes, grape verities, and regions. 206-453-5014. “Keep Clam” for the New Year by heading to Ivar’s on Lake Union. Celebrate the beginning of the New Year with a waterfront view of the Space Needle’s fireworks show while enjoying a salmon buffet dinner and champagne. 206-632-0767. 9pm–12:30am. $75. Reservations availible via website.
Speaking of celebrations on Lake Union, Westward will be throwing a New Year's party with a four-course dinner. Front row seats on the lake mean a good view for the fireworks show. It may be too cold to sail over, but the outdoor fireplace should warm partygoers up. 206-552-8215. $75 for 6pm seating; $95 for 9pm seating.
Ethan Stowell’s newest restaurant will be celebrating with a four-course truffle-focused menu. Caviar or smoked mackerel start off the meal, followed by grilled venison or duck breast and juniper, and finished with dessert. Local farmers, butchers, and fishermen’s products will be featured during a seven-course prix fixe dinner in the Pioneer Square boutique. Wine and cocktail pairings available, and a champagne toast at the strike of midnight. 206-641-7250. 8pm. $100.
