'Tis The Season
Where to Eat a Festive Holiday Meal Before Christmas
Even if you're making that Christmas turkey yourself, there's plenty of room to dine out on Christmas Eve (or before) at one of these restaurants.
Many restaurants are closed over Christmas to allow their staff to enjoy all the festivities, but these spots are embracing the yuletide cheer with holiday-inspired menus and special dinners. Spend your time wrapping presents rather than doing dishes at one of these places, and stay tuned for a post next week on where to dine out on Christmas Day.
Before Christmas Eve
The New York-style pizzeria in Capitol Hill is decking the halls the entire week of Christmas, serving its White Christmas Crab pizza with Dungeness crab meat, scallions, and a bunch of sauces. Check out the restaurant (or takeaway window) open late, even on Christmas Day.
Aqua by El Gaucho
It’s time for the annual holiday winemaker dinner at the tip of Pier 70. On Monday, December 23, winemakers (including Chris Sparkman of Sparkman Cellars, Mark McNeilly of Mary Ryan Winery, and Trey Busch of Sleight of Hand Cellars) will be there to share their vino knowledge. The $150 price tag includes a multi-course meal paired with both red and white wines. The menu consists of seafood, such as the Maine lobster salad, and hearty meat like certified Angus Beef brand tenderloin and a rack of lamb. To make reservations, call 206-956-9171.
Anchovies and Olives
Once again, chef Zach Chambers is creating a seafood feast at the Feast of the Seven Fishes to ring in the holiday Ethan Stowell style. Starting at 5, the four-course dinner will include potato-leek soup with Dungeness crab, whole grilled Branzino, and orange chocolate cake. This family-style meal is $75 per person and includes an optional wine pairing for an extra $35. Call 206-838-8080 to make reservations.
Get a mug of hot-buttered rum alongside some beachy cocktails at this Capitol Hill rum bar. The mini-Caribbean getaway is also welcoming chef Evan Leichtling for the evening to prepare a traditional holiday-inspired feast. Details are still up in the air, but rumor has it a suckling pig may be involved. Of course, the full bar will be open as well. Call 206-583-7177 to make reservations.
Lost Lake Cafe and Lounge
This trendy diner in Capitol Hill is bringing in Christmas the right way–with a lot of food. The restaurant is hosting a special Christmas Eve dinner starting at 5 and running until midnight. And try some family-style side dishes including creamed corn and spiced butternut squash for $3.50 each. Yuletide drinks like hot chocolate with peppermint schnapps and spicy bourbon mulled cider will also be available.
Calling all vegans (or anyone with vegan family members): get ready to feast on yuletide deliciousness. This fresh Capitol Hill spot will be serving a Christmas Eve brunch from 10 until 4. Cinnamon pear pancakes with whipped cinnamon butter and country yams with breakfast potatoes are just a few options this feast includes. Try some spiked hot chocolate with Fireball whiskey or a pomegranate mimosa to start the day off right. This all-you-can-eat brunch is $23 per person and $9 for kids.
