Cool and Cozy
Sample Sale: Prairie Underground
Shop iconic hoodies, added-interest leggings, and spruced-up basics by one of Seattle's favorite local fashion brands at this annual sale.
Each year, the folks from the local line Prairie Underground gather up surplus styles and hold a blowout sale with hundreds of garments priced 50 to 70 percent below retail.
This year's big fun goes down on December 7 and 8.
Co-founder Davora Lindner tells us to expect "hoodies, jackets, sweatshirts, dresses, and leggings; sales samples as well as factory seconds are represented, so all sizes are available. Racks are arranged according to size and we add fresh stock each day."
One thing that sets Prairie's yearly sales apart from other bargain dive-ins is that the company gives back to the community even as they're giving back to their clients.
"Since 2011 we have donated 20 percent of sale proceeds to non-profits, changing the focus of the event to something more meaningful," says Lindner. "It's been a practical way for Prairie Underground to have a greater impact in the city we love."
The Saturday and Sunday sale moves to Sodo after a couple years of Fremont events; Lindner says they found a unique Kung Fu gym space on Fourth Ave, just south of Lander with a parking lot and ample street parking all around. (See address in the flier above.)
The space also has a ramp for strollers and seating for non-shopping shopping companions. Look for the Pink Elephant car wash and Bye's Burgers, and you're almost there. "Sodo is such an interesting and practical neighborhood," says Lindner. "There are so many ways to multitask this event."
A final tip from the source: "We will have some curtained areas for fitting rooms but many women arrive in garments that allow them to try on clothing in an open space."
Accepted payment: Cards (Visa, MC, AmEx) and cash.
