You Now Need a Passport to Visit Portland
But it's not because Portlandia is actually a foreign country. (It's because they have some cool freebies to give you.)
How foreign is Oregon? Well, it's a land where pot, sales tax, and pumping your own gas are illegal. But the new Portland Passport isn't about diplomatic regulations—it's a new package of deals for winter visitors to Rose City.
The promotion is available only through the city's Travel Portland website and applies to visitors staying through April 1. After a hotel stay is booked through the site, visitors get coupons good for freebies like a free Voodoo Doughnut treat (good only for the Portland Cream; you'll have to buy your own Fruit Loop concoction), a free plate of meatballs at IKEA, a free salami from Olympic Provisions, and free basket of buttermilk biscuits from Country Cat Dinnerhouse & Bar.
Oh, you thought Portland was health central? There's a coupon for a YouCanHasCheesburger at the Brunch Box food cart—a hamburger that uses two Texas-toast grilled cheese sandwiches in place of a bun. Besides a city-load of calories, the passport is also good for a Widmer Brothers Brewing one-hour tour and souvenir glass.
Select Portland Perks hotels also offer free parking and continental breakfast. Not that you'll be hungry.
