Not that you needed another reason to sneak over to Nordstrom on your lunch break, but here ya go: The downtown Seattle store brings back its free lunchtime concert series this Thursday, January 31, with Seattle singer-songwriter Bryan John Appleby (that charming fellow to the left). He's a favorite in the Seattle indie-folk scene, known for his thoughtful lyrics and serene, understated arrangements. If you've ever been to the Doe Bay Festival on Orcas Island, you may have stumbled across him strumming his guitar in the middle of the woods. Now you just have to go to the first floor of Nordstrom to find him playing tracks from his debut full-length album, Fire on the Vine. (January 31 at noon.)
Free concerts are scheduled for the last Thursday of the month for the near future. Next up: Deep Sea Diver's Jessica Dobson on February 28. She's a busy lady so this is a coup for Nordstrom. Dobson spent much of 2012 touring as the lead guitarist for the Shins; when she wasn't on the road with James Mercer, she was fronting the indie-rock band Deep Sea Diver, whose debut LP History Speaks was one of the best Seattle releases of 2012. Check her out.
