Go See: Upcycle Seattle
From recycled bike tubes to 520 bridge pontoons, Upcycle Seattle features some of the city's greenest designers.
WHERE: 415 Westlake Avenue N
WHAT: As part of the Seattle Design Festival, Upcycle Seattle hosts talks from local upcycling design firms and a dance party to boot. Seth Grizzle and Jonathan Junker—perfect last name for someone in the business of recycling, by the way—of Graypants will be on hand to discuss their repurposed cardboard furniture and encourage other designers to think outside of the (cardboard) box.
Looking for some new digs? HyBrid Architecture founders Robert Humble and Joel Egan offer up an upcycled option with cargotecture, repurposed and recycled ISO shipping containers formed into living and work spaces. Lastly, biker-favorite Alchemy Goods presents their bags and accessories made from locally sourced recycled bike tires and seatbelts.
Upcycle Seattle will also feature a design competition for transforming Seattle's 520 floating bridge and a raffle benefiting Bike Works' initiative to refurbish used bicycles and donate them back to the community. Follow all this up with a dance party with an open bar provided by Hilliard's Beer and Sound Spirits Distillery.
