And So the Farewell to Sambar Begins
Novo Fogo is putting on a Brazilian-themed sendoff to the Ballard bar and its resident barman.
Remember how exciting it was to learn that we still had weeks and weeks left to enjoy Sambar? Its sibling restaurant Le Gourmand closed in June, but as-good-as-it-gets bartender Jay Kuehner is still making cocktails next door, and devotees are still drinking them in the garden.
But the official September 29 close is drawing near, and the farwells have begun. This weekend Dragos Axinte, owner of Bellevue-based cachaça company Novo Fogo, sent word of a Sambar sendoff happening tonight from 6pm on.
Kuehner will be behind the bar, along with Luke McKinley, the bar director at Ravish in Eastlake. Specially priced cocktails made with--surprise, surprise--Nove Fogo will be a-flowing and Axinte also promises Brazilian bites and love bossa nova music revving up at 8.
Here's a twist: Axinte is encouraging people to wear a soccer jersey; the person sporting the most notable futbol attire wins a pair of tickets to the Sounders' last regular-season home game (October 21 against FC Dallas).
