Restaurant Shifts and Shakeups
This week: more details on Joshua Henderson's tavern project, a new spot for cheesesteaks, and a community rallies to save a Rainier Valley restaurant.
If you've ever been on Lake Washington and craved a summer snack, worry no more: a new floating hot dog stand could be near. Summer Dog, the wiener-vending vessel of Chris Rice and Emma Schwartzmann, will be making waves on Lake Union and Lake Washington until the end of September. The boat has already been a hit selling beef, pork and veggie dogs, bratwurst, and hot links for $6, as well as soda for $2.
Philly Boys Cheesesteaks
The cheesesteaks that John Schofield has been selling and slinging from his trailer can now be found at his new counter in SODO. Fresh from a visit of his hometown Philedelphia, Schofield and his son A.J. have opened the Philly Boys Cheesesteak takeout counter dedicated to the iconic sandwich.
Kickin' Boot Whiskey Kitchen
After much anticipaton, the barbecue restaurant opened this week in Ballard. The massive renovation took several months to finish, but with a patio overlooking Salmon Bay, intricate chandeliers, and a horseshoe-shaped bar, it seems well worth the wait. Ballard Station Public House
Friends-turned-business-partners Craig Walker and Dave Svrcek opened Ballard Station Public House earlier this week at 2236 NW Market St. What used to be the Ballard Ave Pub now features scratch cocktails, 12 taps, wine and simple bar food.
Delancey's sibling bar Essex is now open to the public, located next to Delancey at 1421 NW 70th St. The menu features housemade craft liqueurs, soft pretzels a handful of desserts and lots of cured meats, cheeses, and pickled things.
CHS posted pictures of the new Central District coffeehouse that expanded onto Bellevue Ave in Capitol Hill. They will serve Stumptown coffee and is part of the Bellevue Terrace apartment building.
The 23rd location of Pagliacci Pizza has been under construction for several weeks now at 3015 E Madison St. Co-owner Matt Galvin shared site plans with Madison Park Blogger of what the location will look like upon completion in the fall.
Fish Cake Factory
Eater Seattle as more details on Fish Cake Factory, which is replacing Zeitoon in Belltown. Wife and husband team Jo and Arnon Kaseter are planning a September 15 opening. The Factory will serve fish cakes made of salmon, halibut, trout and whatever is in season spiced with various curries, according to chef Vimonsri Wongjaraen, formerly of cult favorite Thai eatery Bai Tong.
Joshua Henderson's newest project
Skillet founder Joshua Henderson may have disengaged from the operational side of Skillet last December, but he is by no means taking a break. He recently shared a few additional details about his newest project with Seattle Met: a cheeseburger and whiskey tavern in Woodinville, a place currently known as Hollywood Tavern. Henderson has the cheeseburger half covered, while a distillery partner will supply the whiskey. No official announcement will be made until all the logistics are worked out though.
Happy Grillmore: "Here for Good"
The Happy Grillmore food truck has secured a new Tuesday location at Fourth and Lander in SODO, and starrted Wednesdays at Boren and Harrison this week. After their initial move from Portland, owners Darren McGill and Kryse Martin-McGill weren't certain of how long they'd stick around, but with new locations now seem to be finding a home here in Seattle.
New chef at How to Cook a Wolf
Ethan Stowell's restuarant How to Cook a Wolf in Queen Anne has a new alpha in the kitchen after chef Jake Martin's departure. Stowell praised Martin's cooking ability, but commented that "I don't think it was a good fit for either party." Detials on the new chef are scarce, with only a hint of an "in-house person" taking over.
New ownership for EVO Tapas
Only a few months after the opening of EVO Tapas, owner Todd Nordahl is transferring ownership to the adjacent dance club, The Social. Nordahl said he hopes the new team will reopen the space and keep many of the current employees, according to CHS.
This high-flying burger joint in Ballard is looking for a new superman to run the business, reported My Ballard. Owner Steven Tram said that although business is doing great, he wants more time with his family. Burger Hero is known for serving fresh, homemade burgers, seafood and chicken dishes named after superheroes.
Corner Bar replacing Whiskey Bar
Much to the chagrin of the neighborhod, Whiskey Bar on Second Ave and Virginia St closed earlier this month. However, it won't stay empty for long - Eater Seattle posted a picture of a new sign in the window announcing the arrival of Corner Bar
The Stranger reported that the Rainier Valley restaurant could be closing by the end of September unless the neighborhood and rally for it. A "Notice of Proposed Land Use Actions" sign went up earlier this week, saying Silver Fork will be replaced by a four-pump Safeway gas station and kiosk. Owner Larkin Potts seemed resigned to the fate of Silver Fork, but you can help save the location by submitting a comment to the Department of Planning and Development and/or sending an email to Sara Osborne, the public and government affair director of Safeway's Seattle division.
