Ezell’s Famous Chicken: Esquire readers dig it. Photo courtesy the establishment.

In case you haven’t heard, Esquire readers consider Ezell’s Famous Chicken the best in the land. Well deserved, no doubt, but amid that news comes equally exciting tidings: The local outfit, which currently operates seven locations, is planning to expand.

Three or four more restaurants are in the pipeline. According to a rep, seven areas are in consideration: Mill Creek, Lynnwood, Redmond, Rainier Valley, Factoria, Federal Way, and Puyallup. Details are few at the moment—no leases have been signed—but owner Lewis Rudd hopes this all will happen within a year.

Now, to clear up any confusion, the man for whom the chicken chain is named is no longer associated with the business he cofounded in 1984. Ezell Stephens has since gone on to open Heaven Sent Fried Chicken—and he reportedly took his recipes with him. The resulting restaurants are certainly worth a visit.
