Cal’s American Kitchen Coming to South Lake Union
Yep, another new eatery in the Amazone. With a menu by Shannon Galusha and some self-serve beer taps.
The team behind Cal’s Classic American at Kent Station is readying its next restaurant, so Amazonians, you better ready yourself for a communal table with self-serve beer taps.
Cal’s American Kitchen, destined for 404 Terry Avenue in South Lake Union, will resemble its Kent sibling, but will be less of a tavern and more of a bar and restaurant. The menu of crowdpleasing American food comes courtesy of chef Shannon Galusha, formerly of Bastille and Veil.
The space will seat 200, plus another 40 on the upper mezzanine, plus even more on the patio when the weather cooperates, and is slated to open in late summer. It’s the second project from Classic Concepts Group, which promises specialty cocktails and a communal bar table where customers can pour their own beer (and possibly wine) at a tableside tap with a revolving handle. Drinkers pay by the ounce for what they pour. Cal’s in Kent has five booths with similar self-pour taps.
Galusha departed Bastille’s kitchen late last year to join Matthew Schweitzer and Jeff Chandler to form this restaurant venture. This new project is yet another step toward turning Terry Avenue into a formidable restaurant row, once Cal’s, the Veggie Grill, Shanik and Specialty’s join Cuoco, Brave Horse Tavern, Ting Momo and Cactus (not to mention a new Top Pot around the corner and the nearby Terry Avenue Farmers Market).
