Dave Matthews Band, Allen Stone, and the Avett Brothers to Play the Gorge This Labor Day
Bumbershoot versus DMB, round two.
For all intents and purposes, Dave Matthews Band has a residency at the Gorge. With over 40 headlining shows at the amphitheater in the past 15 years, Matthews is now considered a vital indigenous species in the Columbia River’s ecosystem. And DMB just announced it will return this Labor Day weekend (August 31–September 2) for another three-night stand at the Gorge, with Seattle soul king Allen Stone and folk rockers the Avett Brothers joining.
Matthews has a new album coming out this year after hitting the studio with Steve Lillywhite, the producer behind the group’s first three studio albums Under the Table and Dreaming, Crash, and Before These Crowded Streets. It sounds like their latest collaboration will be a throwback to “the big three”; Lillywhite has taken to calling them the big four on Twitter.
Considering DMB can sell out the Gorge regardless of who tags along as an opener, fans should be giddy that the Avett Brothers and Allen Stone will share the bill. The Avett Brothers have become one of the primary purveyors of folk rock, excelling at both down-home harmonized hymns and high-energy pop rock. Seattleite Allen Stone has been white hot of late following the release of his soulful self-titled LP last year. Looks like DMB is giving Bumbershoot another run for its money this September.
