The moment is finally here, people. Shanik, the sibling restaurant to Vij's in Vancouver, opens Monday, December 3. Meeru Dhalwala's modern Indian restaurant will feature a 72-seat dining room, an adjacent lounge, and a lunchtime takeout area called Tiffin. Dinner service starts at 5, but get there early—Shanik doesn't accept reservations.
Ivar's Seafood Bar: Everett
After closing in early October for renovations, Ivar's Everett location has reopened with a sleek interior and new menu featuring such items as grilled salmon BLT and Asian soba salad with prawns. Located at 1520 41st Street, the restaurant is also home to a Coca-Cola Freestyle machine.
Belltown has another Vietnamese restaurant serving up pho, reasonably priced banh mi, and other traditional dishes, according to Eater Seattle. Owner and chef Sam Han has a 20-year history running small neighborhood eateries, including Lucky's Pho.
Mayan doomsday prophecy be damned. Maria Hines will debut her highly anticipated Sicilian trattoria on December 21. Hines recently spent 11 days in Italy planning the menu, which will include housemade burrata, arancini, decadent bucatini, and fagottini filled with sheep's milk ricotta.
The Old Sage
Chefs Brian McCraken and Dana Tough (Spur, Tavern Law, Coterie Room) are all about smoked meats (but not barbecue), beer, and whiskey for their new venture, the Old Sage. The Old Sage will open down the street from Tavern Law in the former Local Vine space, and will make use of various old-world smoking approaches combined with their own culinary techniques.
Construction started this week at 4300 Fremont Avenue North, future home to Eric Donnelly's seafood" restaurant. Prior to running the kitchen at Toulouse Petit, Donnelly spent time at Oceanaire, which cultivated and cemented his love of seafood. The menu will feature "well-composed dishes" and "manageable protein sizes," and is set to open in spring.
Bakery Nouveau: Capitol Hill
The West Seattle sensation is planning its first new location since debuting six years ago, reports CHS. Founder William Leaman says the patisserie, slated for a commercial unit in the East John Court, will churn out extravagant cakes, candies, and "kick-ass sandwiches."
Full Tilt: Columbia City
According to Eater Seattle, Full Tilt in Columbia City will soon have a neighboring sister bar. Owner Ken Anderson plans to open family-friendly the Hummingbird Saloon with his wife and bartending brother-in-law. Pints of Full Tilt ice cream, homey food selections, a giant chess table, and in true Full Tilt fashion, arcade games are part of the plan.
Matt's in the Market: Shane Ryan
Following the departure of Chester Gerl, interim head chef Shane Ryan has accepted the position on a permanent basis; he'll roll out his first menu Friday. Owner Dan Bugge is excited about the change, citing Ryan's familiarity with the restaurant and menu. Ryan's past experience includes Tavolata, How to Cook a Wolf, and Staple and Fancy.
Madison Park Conservatory: Zoi Antonitsas
Zoi Antonitsas has helped run the kitchen at Madison Park Conservatory since it opened in December 2010 but is leaving the establishment after this week to pursue new projects, Eater Seattle reports.
The food truck's smoked chocolate bacon mousse, until now only available during special events, will soon become a staple item during co-owners Jonathan Amato and Evan Mayer's late-night stints on Ballard Avenue.
The popular pastaria closes Friday to prepare for the move to a larger location in Pioneer Square at 217 James Street. Thanks to the full kitchen, owner Easton will be able to pump out more pasta and add to the menu housemade charcuterie, desserts, and packaged to-go pasta. The name will remain the same, with a reopening goal of early 2013.
El Camion Adentro
Like many fourwheelers before it, the popular Mexican food truck is preparing to open a brick-and-mortar, this one in the location formerly occupied by Roro's BBQ and Zesto's. Owner Scott McGinnis says the name is El Camion Adentro (translated: "the truck inside"), and it should open by the end of the year. The restaurant will have both counter and table service for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. McGinnis hopes to add beer to the menu further down the road.
Changes are afoot in the 2200 block of Belltown. Lava Lounge is getting a new owner, and Marcus Chalres has closed the Juju and put it up for sale. Charles said time constraints prompted the decision. Details about the new owner(s) should surface soon.
