Congrats to Stranger restaurant reviewer and managing editor Bethany Jean Clement for her inclusion in the Best Food Writing 2012 compilation for her article "The 2011 Dyke March Wiener Taste Test"—an enjoyable read if ever there was one. A congrats is also in order for Marché chef Greg Atkinson, whose homemade mayonnaise recipe made the cut too.
For the fourth year in a row, Fonté Coffee and Wine Bar is donating all net proceeds from its holiday blend to Pike Market Child Care and Preschool. The beans are available for $18 per pound through the end of December, by which point the cafe hopes to have raised $25,000.
There’s a holiday for just about everything. Case in point: On Monday, December 3 chef David Hatfield of Library Bistro is observing National Fritters Day by handing out freebies. Stop by the Alexis Hotel at First and Madison between 12 and 1 to sample the goodies from Hatfield’s brunch menu.
More free stuff! After several months of business Tony’s Coffees and Teas is having a grand opening party on Friday from 7 to 10. Free shots of espresso will be pulled all day long, and during the celebration enjoy refreshments while local writers read from their work.
