Every year people don their nicest fleece and turn out in Subarus for the Banff Mountain Film Festival, a touring showcase of the year's best outdoor and adventure films and a microbrew-infused party at the Mountaineers center. Don't write it off as a Warren Miller-athon of crazy ski stunts set to M83. Last year we saw an incredible documentary about an 11-year-old girl who's one of the best boulderers in the country, and the year before that we watched record-crushing Swiss climber Ueli Steck scale mountains in the amount of time it takes people to commute to work.
Tickets always go quickly but this year's festival—November 28–30—just went on sale today. The event is also a fundraiser for the Mountaineers' scholarship program. Hot dog and beer sales, however, just support our stomachs.
