First Look: The Wandering Goose
Heather Earnhardt brings southern-inspired fare (including lots of biscuits) to 15th Avenue.
Monday marks the opening of Heather Earnhardt's The Wandering Goose, one of the more anticipated debuts of late, and for good reason: The Capitol Hill restaurant is the first we've seen of the baking extraordinaire since she left Volunteer Park Cafe nearly a year ago.
Goose shares its 15th Avenue address with Ethan Stowell's Rione XIII; the two restaurants are separated by vintage leaded glass windows. While Rione is sparsely sleek, Earnhardt's 30-seat cafe imbues unbuttoned down-home charm—exactly what you'd expect from the southern-raised Earnhardt. She envision Goose as a sort of community hub, and it most certainly will become just that. After all, the place is made possible by a founders club of Earnhardt diehards.
Southern comfort food drives the biscuit-loaded menu while an amply stocked pastry case provides various bundt cakes and those legendary chocolate chip cookies. Enjoy them morning or afternoon with something from the seriously impressive espresso machine, or grab them for the road. The Wandering Goose serves breakfast and lunch, with dinner happening once a week: on Fridays, a $30, first-come, first-served family-style supper.
