U:Don owner Tak Kurachi let me know that his University District noodle shop is softly open, with limited hours limited through Christmas (find the hours on U:Don’s facebook page). On the menu: eight preparations of udon noodles, both hot and cold. The roster of dishes is posted online and the photos look so tempting that I can’t quite believe the insanely low (below $5 low) prices Kurachi quoted me when we first spoke.
The thick wheat noodles are made within view of the dining area, and Kurachi is quick to trumpet his natural ingredients and made-from-scratch soups and sauces. But let’s be honest, he had me at “$5” and “noodles.”
