Seattle Weekly and The Stranger Covers Among Best in 2010
The Society of Publication Designers shows our alt-weeklies some love.
We already know that our city’s alt-weeklies publish some mind-blowing covers from time to time (is Courtney Love still mad about this one?), but now a national organization of designers is giving them some recognition. Both Seattle Weekly and The Stranger made the Society of Publication Designers’ Top 10 Alternative Newsweekly Covers of 2010 list: the Weekly for its play on V-J Day in Times Square following the repeal of "Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell"; and The Stranger for its depiction of a bird covered in oil (following the BP Gulf oil spill) by artist Aaron Bagley. Congrats to both papers.
