SPD's gang unit has taken over the investigation of a Monday morning shooting in Pioneer Square.

Shortly after closing time, police breaking up a fight near a nightclub at 2nd and Yesler heard gunshots. A block away, officers found a Hispanic man yelling that his cousin had been shot.

Police found a man laying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the chest. A police report on the incident notes that the man was covered in tattoos, including a prominent one on his chest that reads "Valley's Finest."

Police were unable to find any shell casings or other evidence at the scene, and the man who'd called out to officers fled before he could be interviewed.
